Finance Minister Chang Sheng-ford says the government has already gathered information about Taiwanese distributors importing oil used in animal feed from Vietnam. Chang was speaking Monday at the legislature.
The tainted edible oil scandal has snowballed into a food safety crisis since its outbreak in September.
A Vietnamese company has admitted that it exported nearly 50,000 tons of edible oil and oil used in animal feed to Taiwan for more than three years from 2011 to July of this year.
So far, the Ting Hsin International Group is the only Taiwanese company that has been found mixing edible oil with oil intended for animals. Chang said the government will have more information about other distributors and retailers in two days.
The lard made by Ting Hsin International Group has a 95% market share in Taiwan. The remaining 4% is dominated by two other companies.
