RTI wins 7 awards at this year’s Golden Bells
Lost in Dutch Formosa

Radio Taiwan International was the biggest winner at this year’s broadcasting awards – the Golden Bell Awards – which were announced on Saturday night in Taipei.

One of the top awards of the night – best variety show hosts – went to a Song Shao-ching and Lee Wei-chen for their show Weekend Stage. Teams from RTI also won best alternative music program and best alternative music program hosts.

While almost all of the awardees on Saturday were for programs in Mandarin or Chinese dialects, one of the winners was an English-language series on RTI called Lost in Dutch Formosa. The series won for best radio play and best sound effects.

 

Another notable program was a series on the children of gay and lesbian couples, called “Rainbow under the Sun”, which picked up the social awareness program award for RTI.

 

The final award of the night was the pop music program host award, which went to veteran DJ Mickey Huang (Huang Zijiao). He gave an emotional acceptance speech after winning the first Golden Bell in his 13-year radio career, for his program which airs on UFO Network.
