Central bank likely to leave interest rates unchanged: Analysts

Analysts say that Taiwan’s central bank is likely to leave its key interest rates unchanged.

The central bank is scheduled to hold a board meeting next Thursday. Earlier this week, head of the US Federal Reserve, Janet Yellen, hinted that interest rates in the US could start rising in 2015. Many people are therefore speculating that interest rates in Taiwan may also go up.

However, analysts said that given Taiwan’s low consumer price index growth this year, there is no urgency for interest rate to rise. They also said that an increase in interest rates in the US will not happen in the first half of 2015 and concluded that interest rates in Taiwan will likely remain unchanged for the 11th quarter in a row.
