Protesters have continued to occupy the legislature, but the legislature president did call a meeting to discuss how to deal with the cross-strait trade in services agreement.

Legislature president Wang Jin-pyng met with representatives of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) and Taiwan Solidarity Union at the presidential office on Friday.

KMT lawmaker Lin Hung-chih said his party wants to deal with the controversy over the agreement. He said they are opposed to giving the agreement back to the committee but are willing to discuss how the legislature would review the agreement.

"People from all sectors believe that we should discuss this issue so we have an open attitude to this," said Lin. "As to how we would discuss, vote, and as for the procedures – the ruling and opposition camps can discuss this and decide."

Wang said that the opposition Democratic Progressive Party did not attend the meeting so there was no conclusion on how to review the agreement. Lin said that discussions over the issue could begin as soon as tomorrow.

The trade in services agreement was signed between Taiwan and China last June but the legislature still has not reviewed it due to differences between the ruling and opposition camps.
