Chinese war planes have entered Taiwan’s air space six times in the past eight days. This has led to questions about the future of the sightseeing flights that Taiwanese air carriers have been promoting to aviation fans as COVID-19 keeps international travel off the table.
The flights circle Taiwan once, landing at the same airport from which they departed.
Deputy Transportation Minister Chi Wen-jong said on Thursday that the national security system has already begun preparing to keep China’s incursions from affecting flights.
Airlines offering these flights will now have to report the exact routes the planes will take to the Civil Aeronautics Administration, which will advise the carriers on which parts of Taiwan’s air space to avoid.
